Nantwich Town Football Club contacted us after an environmental issue arose at the club ground. Their sewage treatment plant discharged treated effluent to a twin foul pumping station, which transferred it to its designated outfall. During a routine desludge, the tankering company had dropped a heavy-duty manhole cover into the tank, cracking the base and allowing groundwater to enter the unit.
The Club had already obtained two replacement quotations and asked us to confirm that the proposed replacement unit and installation would meet Environment Agency binding rules.
Scope of works:
Drainage survey to confirm surface water and foul water were correctly segregated
Sizing of the replacement foul waste unit in line with the British Water Code of Practice, Flows and Loads (4 sizing criteria)
Assessment of the existing twin pumping station (Klargester) and its condition
Review of the two replacement quotations obtained by the Club
Specification of a compliant sewage treatment plant and installation to meet current Environment Agency legislation
The work
The existing twin foul pumping station was identified as a Klargester unit. The make and model of the damaged sewage treatment plant, and the final discharge point, were still to be confirmed as part of the wider survey work.
We completed a drainage survey to confirm the site's surface water and foul water systems were properly segregated. Using the British Water Code of Practice, Flows and Loads, we calculated the correct sizing for the replacement foul waste treatment unit based on the Club's usage.
The two quotations the Club had received both proposed a new supply and installation of a sewage package treatment plant, along with a service of the twin pumping station. Our role was to confirm that the proposed solution would give the Club a fully compliant system, meeting current Environment Agency legislation.
Outcome
Nantwich Town Football Club now has a clear, compliant path forward for replacing their damaged sewage treatment plant, with sizing calculated to the correct standard and confirmation that the proposed installation meets Environment Agency binding rules.
