It may be that you have an existing wastewater system that is damaged or non-compliant with current legislation and need to assess your options
System Selection
Choosing the right wastewater treatment and disposal method for your site is essential to ensure effective long-term performance, protection of public and environmental health, as well as agency compliance in accordance with relevant legislation.
Wastewater treatment and disposal can be provided by either public (foul) sewer or by a private sewage system. Use of a private system is only usually acceptable where connection to the public sewer is not possible.
Before sewage effluent can be discharged to ‘controlled waters’ it must receive at least primary and secondary treatment:
For a discharge to ground the micro-organisms in the soil provide the secondary treatment.
For a discharge to a water course the sewage treatment must be provided by a Package Sewage Treatment Plant (PSTP) or equivalent.
As of 1st January 2020 the General Binding Rules implemented by the Environment Agency prohibit septic tanks from discharging directly into surface water. We can assist in ensuring that your septic tank is 2020 compliant.

Homeowners Drainage Surveys
Providing complete transparency for all parties involved in the home buying and selling process. A homeowner’s drainage survey will provide full and up-to-date details about the wastewater system in operation.
A homeowner’s drainage survey will identify drainage ruins, system type in operation, clarify the outlet type of drainage and confirm if the current system is compliant with the Environment Agency Binding Rules. The survey will highlight any potential issues and offer practical solutions to rectify the system.
All documentation is provided with a full report by a qualified engineer.
Percolation Testing
If planning for a drainage field a percolation test should be one of the first steps taken. A percolation test confirms if the ground conditions at your property will sustain a drainage field and the linear meterage of drainage required. The ‘British Standard Code of Practice for the Design and Installation of Drainage Fields for Use in Wastewater Treatment Systems’ outlines the guidelines for testing.
Our engineers can complete a test in line with the guidelines and provide a site compliance report. This will confirm your available options or propose alternative solutions.
Environment Agency Compliance Services
Is your system compliant with the Environment Agency's General Binding Rules? As a homeowner, it's your responsibility to ensure that your drainage system is fully compliant with legislation.
We can provide a comprehensive report that confirms if your system is fully compliant with the Environmental Agency legislation and Code of Practice. In instances where your system is not compliant, we can offer practical solutions that will bring your system into compliance and adhere to relevant regulations.
