Drainage Compliance Upgrade at Ashwood Farm Barns in Chester
Ensuring Compliance with Environment Agency Binding Rules
Following a request to confirm that Ashwood Farm Barns met Environment Agency Binding Rules, we carried out a detailed Homeowner’s Drainage Survey at the property in Chester, Cheshire West. The survey identified the following issues:
Combined surface water and foul drainage entering an existing septic tank
The septic tank discharging directly into a watercourse, which is no longer compliant
These findings highlighted the need for a septic tank replacement and drainage system upgrade to achieve full regulatory compliance.
Drainage Survey and System Design
Based on the survey results, we produced a comprehensive drainage compliance report along with a clear quotation for the required upgrade works. Once approved by the client, the project was scheduled and works commenced during the week beginning 5th December, with completion achieved on 19th December 2025.
All works were reviewed and approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council, ensuring the installation met local authority and environmental requirements.
Installation of Ensign PE08IPS Sewage Treatment Plant
To bring the site fully up to standard, we installed an Ensign PE08IPS sewage package treatment plant in a trafficable area, making it suitable for long-term residential use.
As part of the upgrade:
The existing septic tank was cleaned and disinfected
It was repurposed as a water storage tank for garden irrigation, supporting sustainable water reuse
Treated effluent from the new sewage treatment system discharges via the existing outfall to the brook, alongside the surface water overflow
This approach ensured minimal disruption while delivering a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible wastewater solution.
Successful Outcome for New Property Owners
The completed system now provides:
Full Environment Agency compliance
Improved wastewater treatment performance
A future-proof drainage solution for rural living
We are pleased to report that the new property owners are extremely happy with their new sewage treatment plant installation.
