Following a discussion with United Utilities representative we were informed that there was an increasing problem with separable oil grease [ SOG ] within the public foul sewer systems within the North West.

Public houses, restaurants and fast food outlets have inadequate grease collection prior to discharge to the public sewerage system. The properties have either no grease collection or the unit they have is inadequate for their trade, and in many cases there is no maintenance arrangements in place,

Hence, restaurants and public hoses will be required to address the issue of the collection and disposal of separable oil and grease generated from their development.

Grease discharging into the sewer can cause blockages, ( flooding ), equipment failure ( pumping stations, screens blinding etc )

The above treatment plant serves 2 x 4 bedroom properties, one of the properties is now for sale, unfortunately the property can not be sold until the foul waste water system is upgraded to comply with the current Environment Agency binding rules.

Unfortunately the owner of the property which is not for sale does NOT want to upgrade the system. Not currently selling their property.

We have discussed the issues with the property owner and suggested that they install a sewage plant for their 4 bedroom properties, and ask their solicitor to serve notice on the 2nd property to install their own system.

The current unit is on the property which is for sale, and does not comply with current legislation, which would cause an issue with the Environment Agency, pollution issues

Following a site visit today, the question I was asked is ‘ does my system comply with current Environment Agency binding rules ‘ !!!!

When I explained that a replacement unit would be required, an home owners drainage survey was organised and a provisional order placed for a Marsh Ensign PE06IPS sewage treatment plant

Our client is confident he can install the new sewage treatment plant with is own farming staff, we have provided / confirmed a commissioning visit as and when required.
